Benton County Jail Records

The official custody path starts on the Benton County Daily Jail Roster page. That county page routes users to the Tyler/New World Benton County Inmate Inquiry portal. The roster is free and does not require a login. It is the best first source for current and recent Benton County Jail custody because it is tied to the county corrections system, not a third-party directory.

Benton County Corrections operates the jail at the Justice Center in Kennewick. The jail serves law-enforcement agencies across Kennewick, Richland, West Richland, Prosser, Benton City, and other agencies by contract. The roster can include people in pre-trial custody, local jail sentences, warrant turn-ins, self-surrenders, alternative-program status, and contract holds. A profile inspected during research included a "USM CONTRACT" charge line, so a federal hold may appear on the county roster when the person is physically held at Benton County Jail.

The county instruction page gives a useful rule: less is more. A first name alone or last name alone can work better than a full name with a spelling error. If the booking date is not known, the county says to delete dates from both date boxes. The In Custody checkbox is also important because it limits results to people currently booked into jail when checked.

Use the Benton Roster

The roster search should be used before calling the jail when the question is whether a person is currently in custody. The portal returns a results grid first, then a linked profile for each person. On July 2, 2026, a current-custody search showed "Showing 1 to 100 of 398," which is a dated research snapshot, not a fixed count. Live roster totals change as people are booked, released, transferred, or moved into alternative programs.

1. Open the county Daily Jail Roster page, then follow the link to the Benton County Jail Roster Search Website.
2. Enter only a first name or only a last name when spelling is uncertain. Use Subject Number or Booking Number only when those identifiers are already known.
3. Clear the Booking From Date and Booking To Date fields if the exact booking date is not known.
4. Check In Custody for current jail custody. Leave it unchecked when searching older bookings within the portal's visible range.
5. Use Housing Facility when the distinction between Benton County Corrections and Benton County Alternative Programs matters.
6. Open the linked name in the result grid to view booking history, charges, bond fields, housing facility, photos section, and release date if shown.

Benton County Roster Fields

The Tyler/New World search form has several fields, but most searches start with the Name field and the In Custody checkbox. The county advises against filling every field. Broad searches reduce missed matches when a name is hyphenated, misspelled, shortened, or entered in a different order. The Housing Facility dropdown is locally useful because Benton County Alternative Programs can appear as a roster option even though the facility map contains only Benton County Jail as a physical jail page.

Benton County Profile Fields

A roster result opens a public inmate profile. The profile is more detailed than the search grid, but it is still not the full jail file. The public page inspected during research had demographic information, a photos section with booking-photo timestamps, booking history, bond fields, and a charge table. Some fields can be blank. For example, the inspected profile had blank release date and booking origin fields, and its bond table showed no data even though total bond and total bail fields existed.

Booking is the jail intake event. A charge is an alleged offense or hold reason. A disposition is a court outcome or status, such as dismissed, amended, pled, or sentenced. Those terms should not be treated as the same thing when reading Benton County inmate records.

Benton County Booking Path

Benton County's intake process is specific enough to matter. A person may arrive after arrest, report for a court-ordered sentence, or turn themselves in on an outstanding warrant. During normal business hours, self-surrenders use the main jail lobby. When the lobby is closed, the county says the after-hours entrance is to the left of the main entrance, with a button for assistance.

After admission, all inmates are searched. Personal property is inventoried and stored. Newly admitted inmates are housed in pre-classification holding units while staff evaluate individual histories. After classification, the person is moved to an appropriate housing unit. Classification means the jail's housing and security decision process; pre-classification is the temporary stage before that decision is complete.

Benton County Jail Facility

Benton County has one confirmed detention facility for the local facility list: Benton County Jail. The jail is operated by the Benton County Corrections Department, not as a separate sheriff jail website. Sheriff Mike Clark's office remains important for law-enforcement records and public-records routing, but jail custody and daily jail information are published under Benton County Corrections.

No separate municipal jail, Washington DOC prison, BOP prison, or ICE detention facility was confirmed in Benton County official sources. Alternative Programs is treated as a Benton County jail program or custody status because the official sources did not identify a separate building with its own public address, phone, and bed count.

Benton County Visit Rules

Benton County Jail does not accept incoming calls for inmates. Communication options are U.S. mail, inmate telephone service, and video visitation. Video visitation is not published as a fixed day-by-day booth schedule in the research. The jail describes video visits as on demand, initiated by the inmate through tablet access during out-of-cell or dayroom time. Each inmate receives 30 minutes of free video visitation per week.

Benton County Mail and Funds

Mail must use the inmate's name as it appears on the roster, with the housing unit if known. The mailing address format is inmate name, optional housing unit, Benton County Jail, 7122 W Okanogan Place, #B110, Kennewick, WA 99336. Incoming mail must include a USPS return address with an identifiable first and last name. If staff cannot identify the intended inmate, mail may be returned with the reason noted.

Note: Confirm current custody before sending money because a release, transfer, or hold change can affect access to the funds.

Benton County Records Requests

Roster access is not the same as a full public-records request. RCW 70.48.100 requires a public jail register that includes name, hour and date of confinement, cause of confinement, and hour, date, and manner of discharge. The same statute makes other jail inmate records confidential except for listed releases, such as to criminal justice agencies, jail staff, the confined person, an attorney with written permission, a designee with written permission, or by court order.

For sheriff or corrections records not available online, use the Benton County Sheriff Public Records Portal or the county request form, then route the request to the correct public-records officer. The county public-records material cites Chapter 42.56 RCW, Washington's Public Records Act, and Benton County Code chapter 5.14. It also warns that court records and state or federal database records do not route through the county PRA process.

Benton County Custody Channels

A Benton County inmate search can cross several systems. The county roster is for Benton County Jail custody. The Washington State Department of Corrections is for sentenced state prisoners after transfer. The Federal Bureau of Prisons is mainly for sentenced federal prisoners and BOP releases since 1982.
